The Education Institute of Kinship Center offers in-person classes for both parents/caregivers and professionals, as well as support groups offered in the counties we serve.

Professional Classes

• ACT – More than 7,000 child welfare professionals have completed ACT – An Adoption and Permanency Curriculum for Child Welfare and Mental Health Professionals, which is recognized as a model curriculum for the industry.

Parent/Caregiver Classes

• Family Assessment/Parent Preparation Classes – A 24-hour series of interactive workshops to prepare prospective parents to bring a child home through adoption or foster care.

• Parenting Children who have Experienced Trauma and Loss Series – A 21-hour specialized series of classes designed for parents, kinship caregivers and guardians, who are parenting children who have experienced trauma and loss as a part of their history.  This course provides tools, techniques and information that empower participants to effectively parent their children.

• Love & Logic Series – Parents attending this course will develop an understanding of the Love and Logic principles of raising respectful, responsible children through allowing children to learn from their mistakes and live with the consequences of their choices.

• Incredible Years Parenting Series – A system of promoting competencies in both parents and children, these courses teach parents clinically tested techniques to promote positive behavior with their children at home and in school. Classes are offered in English and Spanish.

Support Groups

Kinship Center hosts support groups for parents and youth in locations throughout California. Support groups are facilitated by Kinship Center social workers, therapists, program managers and other professionals to meet the specific needs of client families in Kinship Center programs. Some groups are also open to the public.
