The Cypress Funds of Kinship Center

Providing financial support and mentoring to foster youth with extraordinary needs

Helping Children Reach Their Potential

The Cypress Funds of Kinship Center provide valuable financial support and mentoring to young people in foster care who require special medical, dental, educational and other services to thrive and reach their potential. These programs are funded through donations from a caring community and provide assistance that is not available through public funds.

Extending a Helping Hand for More Than Two Decades

The Kinship Center Cypress Committee was formed in 1987 to raise funds ro help foster youth have access to higher educaiton. Over the years, the volunteer Committee has broadened its mission to include providing help for foster children with a variety of medical, educational, and other needs that cannot be met by the foster family. An important focus of the Committee's work is helping former foster youth who have reached age 18 with higher education or job training, and with the difficult transition to adulthood. Today the Cypress Funds emcompass four separate funds administered by the Cypres Committee. Through their Kinship Center social worker, foster children or their families may apply for assistance from Funds.

Education Fund

The Education Fund supports the college or vocational school goals of former foster children. Without a strong educational foundation, these young people often lack direction for their lives and are particularly at risk for teen parenthood, mental health problems, drugs, poverty, homelessness and crime.

Askia Health Fund

The Askia Helath Fund was established to porivde dental, orthodonture and other helath related assistance not convered by any other funding.

Chapman Fund

This matching fund was established to provide educational opportunities for children in grades K-12. Kinship Center has used these funds for educational enrichment, tutoring, evaluations for learning disabilities, art supplies, and tuition.

Friends Fund

This Fund provides for the small extras that all children need: sports uniforms, class trips, band instruments, or vacations with family.
