Welcome To Kinship Center

Kinship Center is an adoption California nonprofit agency headquartered in Monterey County dedicated to the creation, preservation and support of foster care, adoptive and relative care families for children who need them. With a core belief that every child deserves a family, Kinship Center has remained focused on our mission for more than twenty-five years – to connect children to safe, permanent families that will be there for a lifetime. Kinship Center serves children and families throughout California, with administrative and program centers in Monterey County, Orange County, Los Angeles County, San Luis Obispo County, and Santa Clara County.

Adoption is a core service from which our other services have evolved since 1984, including therapeutic foster care, relative care, infant adoption, child development, parent education, and professional education. Kinship Center specializes in the development of permanent families – through adoption, relative care, foster care leading to adoption, and other kinds of permanency – for California’s children who need homes. Some are healthy infants who just need a good, loving home through infant adoption. Others are children ages 0 to 18 in the limbo of public foster care. Many have suffered the trauma of abuse, neglect or abandonment. Others have severe or life-threatening medical disabilities. Kinship Center’s parent education programs ensure that parents learn to help traumatized children heal.

Adoptive parents often need help coping with the special needs of children coming from foster care or children placed in relative care, and Kinship Center is a recognized leader in post-adoption California support. Services include parent education and mentoring, family support groups and counseling, emergency intervention, and clinical therapy for children. Each year Kinship Center helps more than 1800 children through adoption or permanency-related services, and provides a lifeline to more than 2000 foster care, adoptive and relative care families. Our Adoption Clinical Training (ACT) enhances the practice of child welfare and mental health professionals nationwide.
